2020 Opening & Season Guidelines related to COVID-19

While the province of Nova Scotia has done a successful job of ‘flattening the curve’ with no recently reported cases of COVID-19. Ambassatours as one of Halifax’ most popular places to visit, is committed to supporting mitigation measures throughout the 2020 season.  

With full compliance to federal and provincial COVID-19 health directives, on July 1st, Ambassatours Gray Line will open its Halifax-based divisions, as follows:  

  • At Cable Wharf in Halifax: Murphy’s Restaurant & Patio and Murphy’s Gift Shop (The Company Store) 

  • Boat tours of the Halifax harbour aboard the Harbour Hopper, Tall Ship Silva, Peggys Cove Express, and Harbour Queen.  

In preparation for our July 1st opening, we are implementing all official COVID-19 guidelines. These protocols are compliant with:

 

  • Public Health Canada

  • Nova Scotia Health Authority

  • Restaurants Canada

  • Passenger and Commercial Vessel Association (PCVA)

 

These combined measures are designed to promote: Cleanliness, Physical Distancing  and  Reduced Contact, across all divisions.  

Our Commitment to Health & Safety 

The health and well-being of our guests and crew members is our number one priority. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic we’re implemented several new safety measures, which include: 

Face Coverings

Mandatory use of staff masks in any area of our operation where six foot physical distancing cannot be consistently maintained (such as for restaurant servers, deckhands, guides.)  

 

Vessel Capacity & Layouts

All our Murphy’s vessels will be operating at 50% or less capacity, and have renewed deck plans, or plexiglass barriers, to facilitate 6 foot (2 metre) physical distancing. If physical distancing is unable to be consistency maintained on a particular tour, the company will implement mandatory use of staff and guest masks on that tour. The company will provide disposable masks to guests, in these few cases.  

 

Timed Ticketing Entry 

To control passenger flow and manage guest capacity aboard our vessels, timed ticketing entry will be implemented, and advance group reservations are required. 

Health Screening

 We will implement policies and post signage where customers can be refused entry if displaying signs of fever and/or cough, or symptoms of COVID-19. Refunds will be given to any pre-booked guest, if they are refused admission to a tour.  

 

Staff Safety Screening

 All staff will be screened prior to commencing their shifts. If exhibiting symptoms, they will be required to leave the work site. 

 

Hand Sanitization 

Guests will be required to use provided hand sanitizing stations prior to entering all our premises (including gift shops, restaurant and vessels). Staff will also be reminded and encouraged to frequently hand wash.  

 

High Touch Surface Sanitation  

High-contact areas, will be sanitized (with documentation) with higher frequency. Such areas on a vessel include: hand rails, seats, tables, washrooms. All restaurant tables and chairs will be thoroughly sanitized between uses. Extra time will be allotted between tours and restaurants seatings for sanitation, and Health Canada approved cleaning products and methods will be used.  

 

Physical Distancing

 Best practices in physical distancing for staff and guests will be implemented including the use of spaced floor 

markers, directional arrows, communication signage, installation of plexiglass at service counters and between seats on some vessels, assigned guest zones on some vessels, ample spacing for queuing, timed ticketing entry and reduced guest capacity on vessels. 

 

Staff Member Health Checks

 A COVID-19 Fit For Duty health check will be conducted with each employee at the start of their shift. The company will also equip team members with the tools they need to provide increased protection such as more frequent Training, access to PPE as well as increased hygiene, disinfection and sanitation 

practices.
